Kaua'i Futsal - About Us
KAUAI FUTSAL is part of HAWAII FUTSAL, an organization committed to developing youth futsal players on the Island of Kauai for competition at both the recreational and competitive levels. KAUAI FUTSAL will launch Kauai’s first U.S. Futsal Federation (USFF)-sanctioned league in December 2017.
How does futsal promote better technique? Futsal is played with five players per team, one of which is the goalkeeper, on a basketball-style court using a low-bouncing ball. The small size of the field forces players to develop both technical and tactical skills in order to control the ball under pressure from other players as well as out-of-play boundaries. Futsal players are skilled at making quick and creative decisions during play. They must settle the ball rapidly, pass to teammates, shield, cut, and move into space in order to support teammates.
Futsal is how the world plays indoor soccer. With such a strong emphasis on ball control, technique, improvisation, and creativity, it’s no wonder that so many soccer greats started out playing futsal.
If you want to participate in futsal on Kauai, there are scheduled times for open-play futsal nights in Kalaheo and Poipu. All you need is soft-court shoes (no cleats), shin guards, and a water bottle.
